We then travelled down to Collie, a town that has a long history of coal mining and which continues today. Camped on the banks of a lake, that was an old open face coal mine but is now a ski lake. Great spot and the weather was lovely and sunny at last. Didnt do much here, was going to tour around, but a dodgy cheese tasting made Rick feel a little "off". So this was a nice chill out spot.
Then we were off to Gnomesville. Once upon a time the story goes a couple of gnomes were left on a roundabout, in time they were mysteriously joined by others and soon it was a major traffic problem. So the gnomes were moved across the road and now have their own village. There must be more than 1,000 here. They stretch forever. You can spend hours here just checking out where the gnomes have "travelled" from to this place, left by families, overseas travellers, schools, kids, deceased estates, bikers, grey nomads etc. Some have stories to tell, others poems, its weird but wonderful. From here we are heading down to apple orchards and vineyards territory. Planning to stay at a winery so that should be another good "chill out" spot for us.
