This is us parked up at Thompson Brook Wines in Donnybrook. The puppies belong to the owners and waited every morning for us to come out and play ball with them. The winery is trying to become an RV friendly destination for free camping. Lovely couple, struggling with the demands of a winery as they are well into retirement age. We enjoyed their wine and their company. They dont live at the winery but "up the hill" and we were on our own most of the time. Donnybrook is in the heart of Orchard Country. The original home of the Granny Smith Apple. Absolutely beautiful country to drive thru. Orchards and vineyards as far as you can see. Literally dozens of small wineries, impossible to visit unless you stay for weeks on end.We used the winery as a base and explored many of the small and interesting towns thru the hills. Loved this part of the country. Pam and Terry our hosts have a huge orchard themselves, oranges, grapefruits, mandarines, peaches, plums etc. plus their vines. Most of their stone fruit, which will be ready in a months time, goes to waste on the ground, as they dont have the time or physical strengths to simply harvest it all. Pity, Rick would have been in heaven if we had come later on next month. Pam tries to do as many farmers markets as she can, plus wine tastings, but its beyond them.
From there we made our way to a little town called Capel. Its between the major seaside towns of Bunbury and Bussellton. Our hosts here are a couple that we met in Broome. They arent motorhomers, but were actually holidaying at a B & B when we met. They invited us to "call in" if we were ever in their area and so we did!!!!. They had a bbq for us with their friends and have been showing us around. Magic little place this one, its nice when the locals show you around because you discover little pockets you would never otherwise find. Very kind and very friendly people. From here we are heading down to Margaret River to visit friends Domenic & Paula and stay on their farm. Cant wait.
