Quobba blowholes & Carnarvon

We camped up at the blowholes in the campground on the cliff edge.  There is a small fish sanctuary right where we were camped and we went down and fed the fish early in the morning.    Lots of small coloured/striped fish. They apparently like grain bread, but we only had frozen squid bait, so Im thinking they got a treat that morning.  Blew a gale that afternoon and night, but the next day the sun was shining and a perfect time to drive off along the coast (4WD) and catch some whales.   We could see them from our windows but caught sight of them closer in as we stopped at various cliff tops to see this treacherous part of the WA Coast.    I must admit, I was a little scared along here.  Warnings everywhere about King Waves that come out of nowhere and of course, Rick kept walking out to the cliff edges, and I stayed back and took pictures.   The whale in the pic, came in with a young juvenile whale.  Impossible to get a good pic but it was lovely to just watch them.  Most of the whales are either moving very quickly or frolicking off shore, breaching out of the water, but too far out to take any good shots.young and old

In the photo below, you might just pick up a balloon in the air, this is called balloon fishing.   They fill a balloon with helium gas, attach it to their fishing line, and then off another length of line from below the balloon they hang their bait fish.   The balloon lets the bait fish go in and out of the water with the breeze and with some luck, they may catch a big mackeral - up to 30kg..   We couldnt stay around long enough, but it would have been an amazing sight if they had caught one.     When we were stopped a little further back, we saw a massive fish in the shallows, just riding the waves.  It was so close, we could have prob. caught it, if we had had a line and bait with us.  It stayed in the one spot, prob. having fun for ages.t

Took so many photos along this coast.   It goes for around 90km before you cant go any further.  The best bits were further up but we were pushing for time to get to Carnarvon to meet our friends (Helen & Eric).  His mum had passed away the day before (on his birthday) and they were waiting for us.   We didnt feel that we could stay out any longer so thats another one for another time.
